The New Sleepys Commercial Makes You Shed a Tear

There goes Sleepy’s tugging at my heart strings…  Have you seen our newest ad campaign featuring the classic Beatles’ song, “In My Life,” on TV or on YouTube yet?  It features all the different life stages from just getting married, to pregnancy and how kids grow up enjoying their mattresses.

By now we all know that we spend one-third of our lives in bed, this new ad campaign shows us just how much we enjoy our time spent on our beds.  The new commercials, which will begin airing on TV the week of December 26th, emphasize the importance of how our bedrooms really are our sanctuaries, where life’s little moments are fully enjoyed.

Sleepy’s conducted a survey just to see what people really thought of their beds and their bedrooms.  The survey results showed (of the 1000+ surveyed):

  • 60% used their bed as a spot for family gathering, having kids and pets snuggle up to bond.
  • 52% believed their bedroom was a “sleep sanctuary” and the ultimate spot in the house for comfort and security.
  • Almost 40% thought of their bed as a multi-functioning area that was used for reading, watching TV, surfing the internet and sleeping.

I think everyone can relate to this commercial at some point or another.  I remember jumping on my mom’s bed (although instead of The Beatles playing, it was The Allman Brothers).  This ad campaign focuses on just how much of our lives take place in bed, even when we’re not sleeping!  Whether snuggling with your kids during a thunderstorm or discussing your day with your spouse, Sleepy’s understands that your mattress is the focal point of your sleep sanctuary and we’ll be with you for all of life’s little moments.

Give the Gift of Sleep

It’s crunch time for completing your holiday gift list!  Is there any one on your list that is difficult to get for?  Do you have someone on your list that already has everything under the sun?  Or perhaps you need to get a gift for someone you don’t know very well.  Why not give them the gift of quality sleep?  With a variety of sleep products on the market, you can find the perfect gift for that someone and you won’t have to break the bank to get it.

Sleepy’s has some great sleep gift suggestions for you.  From slippers to books, you will be able to find a gift that is thoughtful and useful.  After being kept up late wrapping presents and attending holiday parties, giving the gift of sleep to someone will definitely be appreciated!  Getting a great night’s sleep will help relieve tension and stress that is built up around the holiday season.

Another great idea for that impossible someone is to give them a nice bedding item that aides a great night’s sleep.  It’s also a thoughtful idea, because most people don’t remember to get new pillows or sheets after some time.  One night on a brand new memory foam pillow, as opposed to their old flat pillow, could have you on someone’s “Nice List,” for next year!  Do you have a college student on your list?  How about getting them a supportive and comfortable mattress topper?  When I was in college, my foam mattress topper transformed my floorboard of a mattress into a comfortable haven.

Think about the person’s bedroom as well.  Healthy, restorative sleep comes with proper sleep hygiene and one of the best tips for good sleep hygiene is sleeping in a dark room.  Room darkening shades prevent any excess light from the outdoors from seeping into the bedroom.  This may not be the best choice for someone you aren’t very familiar with though.  An eye mask would have similar effects to room darkening shades and you wouldn’t have to know the color scheme of their bedroom!

Sleep is so essential for good health, both physical and mental.  At a time when we all become sleep deprived and stressed, a great night’s sleep is the best gift of all!  There are plenty of different ideas when it comes to sleep-themed gifts, you will find something for everyone.  Giving a restful night’s sleep for the holidays will make everyone happier and enjoy their company more knowing that they are relaxed from their quality sleep.  We here at Sleepy’s hope you have a happy and restful holiday!

Be on the lookout for our After-Christmas Sale when you can get a great price on a new mattress and all your bedding essentials.

Pets in the Bed Debate

The American Pet Products Association recently surveyed pet owners and found that almost half of dog owners and over half of cat owners let their furry friends cuddle up next to them in bed.  I’m actually a little surprised by those high statistics, I really didn’t think that many people would be so keen on letting their four legged family members sleep with them.  Maybe from watching cartoons of dogs living in dog houses when I was a child, or perhaps since I have never let my own dogs stay in my bed, I just assumed most people wouldn’t let their animals in bed with them.

I have two dogs, Napoleon (8 years old) and Ethan (1.5 years old), and they have never slept in my bed or my room.  I have my reasons though.  Ethan, who is finally getting out of his puppy stage, was a notorious bed wetter for a while and I never wanted to take the chance of having him ruin my mattress.  The choice was simple; Ethan would not be allowed on my bed.  Napoleon being older and having more control of his bladder was a different story.  I tried one night to let him stay in my bed, but I don’t think that experience lasted longer than 15 minutes.  Napoleon somehow took up most of my full sized mattress (he’s only 30 pounds) and snores louder than any human I have ever heard snore.  From that one experiment on, my decision was super easy, Napoleon was not allowed on my bed.

Ethan is on the left and Napoleon is on the right

Between the bedwetting and the snoring, I had to make the ultimate decision to put my quality of sleep over my dogs, and you know what, I’m totally fine with it.  I love my dogs to pieces but I cherish my sleep and I want to make sure I take any and all distractions out of my room so that I can have restful sleep.  But it’s not like my dogs are sleeping on rocks.  Napoleon has the run of the downstairs, meaning he can sleep on the couches or his bed, but for some reason he always winds up on the kitchen floor. Ethan has an oversized cage with a pillow and blankets to snuggle with (we don’t want him to make a mess on the couch).

The decision to share your bed with your furry family members is completely up to you.  But if you choose to let them on your bed, I recommend getting a mattress protector for your bed.  Besides protecting your mattress from stains and damage, it will also protect your warranty and I’m pretty sure that my Ethan isn’t the only puppy who is still learning how to control his bladder.  Do yourself a favor, eliminate stress and clean up with a mattress protector pad.

So now that you know where I stand on animals in the bed, what’s your opinion?  Do you let your pets sleep in bed with you?  Why do you or why do you not let your pets spend the night in your bed?

The Importance of Mattress Reviews

I’m at a stage in my life where I’m starting to prepare to purchase my first mattress on my own.  The past three mattresses I’ve slept on in my life have all been picked by my mother, none of which I got to test myself, and the one I’m sleeping on now is a hand-me-down from my mom!  All my mattresses have done their job, I’ve slept well and comfortably, so I’m feeling the pressure of having to pick out my own mattress.  If you’re in the market for a new mattress and feeling overwhelmed by not knowing where to start, try reading through customer reviews first.

Customer reviews can be the best, and easiest, way to navigate the sea of beds in the showrooms.  They may just look like white rectangles to you, but after reading through some customer reviews, you may understand that the proper mattress can change your quality of life.  Customer reviews are a great stepping stone to get the ball rolling on picking your new mattress, and with thousands of reviews online, they are pretty easy to find.

Mattress shopping is hard, but starting the process shouldn’t be.  You ask your friends and family about what GPS they have and if they like it or not, why not ask them about the mattress they sleep on?  Sleepys.com has plenty of reviews for your viewing.  Besides seeing customer reviews, you also have access to our “Staff Favorites.”  In this new section, you can read reviews of the mattress that selected employees who work in the Sleepy’s corporate offices are sleeping on.  You can read about why they love their mattress and you can just click the picture of the featured mattress to see more details about that exact mattress.  Linda DiMarco, who is the Online Art Director at Sleepy’s, came up with the idea for the “Staff Favorites” page saying that, “Since Sleepy’s has such a wide selection of mattresses and that we have many employees at the company, we all sleep on a different mattress and want to tell you what our sleep experience is like on our own mattress.”

What I like about the “Staff Favorites” section is that it gives you a chance to see the people who work behind the scenes in the corporate office, as well as read reviews of different mattresses to help you find your perfect mattress.  So if you’re looking for a starting point in your search for a new mattress, check out what our employees are sleeping on and then visit your local Sleepy’s showroom to test them out for yourself!

The top 10 mattresses with the highest reviews on Sleepys.com are the King Koil Comfort Solutions Thaila Plush Mattress, Laura Ashley Aurora Collection Euro Top Mattress, King Koil Comfort Solutions Kuray Euro Top Plush Mattress, The RhapsodyBed by Tempur-Pedic, Sleepy’s Direct Capital Mattress, Simmons Beautyrest Haworth Plush Mattress, Sealy Comfort Balance Ellington Plush Mattress, the AlluraBed by Tempur-Pedic, Serta Perfect Sleeper Rosa Vista Plush Mattress and Sealy Posturepedic Mohican Firm.

Here is what one Sleepy’s customer said in their review of the AlluraBed by Tempur-Pedic on Sleepys.com:

“My wife and I waited a long time to be able to purchase the ultimate sleep experience, and we love it! It was highly recommended by my sister and her husband, and we agree. It is by far the most unique sleeping experience. No aches and pains in the morning, no rolling into your partner, much quieter, and no sagging…just great support and comfort. I would recommend it to everyone!”

If you go through a few customer reviews, you might find several that you can relate to.  Use the above review as an example.  Perhaps on your current mattress you wake up achy more often than not, or perhaps you and your partner roll into each other in the middle of the night.  Wouldn’t that review make you want to test the AlluraBed to see if it could fix your current sleeping problem?

Besides having a brief written review of their mattress, customers also fill out an overall rating as well as a comfort, quality and value rating on a five-star scale.  The customer also adds how the mattress felt compared to their expectations (firmer or softer than expected).  The customer reviews on Sleepys.com also provide pros and cons (if any).

Reading customer reviews is a great way to start your mattress shopping experience.  But what really needs to happen is you should go to a showroom to test the mattresses yourself.  You’ll have expert advice from one of our Mattress Professionals and you’ll get to feel the comfort and support of each mattress so that you will know sleep system works best for you and which one does not.  Any fan of Tempur-Pedic mattresses will swear by it, but to you, you may not feel comfortable on the high density memory foam mattress.  You won’t know until you try it out yourself!

Sleepy’s employees who wish to write a review about their mattress from Sleepy’s can email the E-Commerce team.  If you are a Sleepy’s customer and would like to review your new mattress, visit the Ratings and Reviews section on Sleepys.com for easy to follow instructions and enter to win a $500 Visa gift card!
